I have not ran into any issues where there was a thermal bypass needed for below freezing temperatures when using the Derale Dyno-Cool Tube-Fin Transmission Cooler part # D12906. There is a lot of heat generated when all of the parts get moving in there and a cool transmission is a happy transmission. In the instructions for Roadmaster base plates # RM-523184-5, linked for reference, the trimming needed will be everything to the left of the yellow line in the picture. So in other words on that plastic air damn everything left of the yellow line gets trimmed off. Figure L in the instructions shows the trimmed air dam on the driver's side.

To plumb a Derale Fluid Control Thermostat Kit # D15719 is actually pretty easy. All you do is run both the send and return line of the transmission to one side and then run both the send and return lines of the cooler to the other side of it. I attached a picture that shows how this will look.

It could still be used as an oil cooler but you would have to tap into an oil line somewhere since this cooler does not come with a spin-on or sandwich oil filter adapter. I spoke to my technical contact at Derale and as long as the Econo-Cool Combo Engine and Transmission Cooler, # D15230, is mounted underneath the vehicle with the fan facing downward (toward the street) and used in normal conditions, you should not have any problems. From what I have found, when wiring your Derale Direct-Mount Remote Cooler Kit for 1987 - 2006 Jeep Wrangler # D20561 the back wire is the hot wire/power wire and the blue wire is the ground. That being said, you won't damage the cooler if these are mixed up. The wiring will only impact the direction of the fan.
